About G E Hartley & Son
The business of G.E. Hartley & Son was established in 1808 in the village of Thorner, Leeds. Then under the name of A&B Harrison it was listed as cabinet and chair makers, but soon started to carry out funerals as people came to them for coffin making.
The Hartley family had always worked for the Harrisons prior to taking the business over some four generations ago.
The old established and much respected business of A.E. Welburn was purchased in 1994 following the death of the last member of that family. They were based in Oakwood.
We opened our Garforth office and chapel of rest in 1995, followed by our Wetherby office and chapel of rest in 2008, both of which have greatly extended our geographic area.
In addition to the members of the Hartley family working in the business today, other funeral directors are employed. All of which have a wealth of experience within the industry and proudly uphold the high standard of service long associated with the business.
